Vihiga is a rural community in Western Kenya , 2nd smallest county with a high density population, insufficient social, science and Technology resources and high rates of HIV/AIDS infections that leave many women widowed, single mothers and children as orphans living in child headed households without guardian support and a reliable source of income.

Jane Alice is a third born of 6. She is 16 years and currently in form 2. She stays with her 68 year old grandmother who is a casual worker.

Due to financial challenges at home, Jane could not immediately join secondary school. She was determined to continue with her education and through her own effort, applied for several local scholarships including Equity Bank, MCA, KCB Bank but did not succeed. She stayed home for the first of form one year missing a significant start of her life in secondary school.

Luckily, she was able join a day school during the third term of her first form. Despite the challenges of school fees and missing school, Jane still scored an A- in her previous exams. She is having challenges of accessing revision materials.

Her father has been operated twice which made his body weak hence cannot work. Due to the lack of income from her grandmother, Jane Alice really needs to get someone to sponsor her to pursue her secondary school education.

Life at home is difficult and as such we placed Jane in a boarding school so she can concentrate on her studies and continue excelling. Jane promises to work hard in achieving her goals in life so she can improve the lifestyle of her grandmother and the community.
